I have made this many times over the years. I use a bold, hoppy beer - this evening was Fort George's Vortex - and fresh thyme sprigs. Delicious and a weekend staple at our house in the fall and winter with leftovers to enjoy for dejeuner or work night dinner.

Excellent stew; a real hit with both the husband and the 2 year old. Meat was fall autonomously tender and the gravy was so flavorful. Served with roasted potatoes. New favorite stew recipe!

Holy Moses, was this great! And then rich and flavorful. Fifty-fifty my non weight conscious husband loved it and asked for me to make it once again. This one'south near definitely a keeper!

So far, so good ... tastes expert fifty-fifty on the starting time night and then it should be even meliorate tomorrow! I also added some more than broth, but probably a niggling besides much - oh well, only serve with some breadstuff ... Just I definitely recommend adding the vegetables (including mushrooms - sauteed separately and deglazed the pan with a trivial water) later on the meat has cooked for an hour, then cooking for the remaining 40 minutes or then. My market had the Moinette Brune, and so I used that. Really skilful!

Excellent stew, made to recipe subbing fresh thyme for dried. Used Ommegang's Rare VOS amber ale (visit their brewery when you go to Cooperstown/Baseball Hall of Fame).

This was good and hearty, and the beefiness is really tender. As some other reviewer noted, the serving size isn't that large, just I found it to exist filling all the same. The leftovers were good besides, with the flavors melding further.

Succulent stew. The just changes that I made was subbing ruddy potatoes for the parsnips (don't care for them) and I didn't add the vegetables until the terminal 30 minutes of cooking so they wouldn't exist overcooked. Served with cornbread.

So succulent! A different, rich gustation. Not sure I will brand any other stew recipe now. I used regular white mushrooms (what I had on mitt) and fresh thyme. I would like more broth besides. Kids would like me to use pearl onions, so I'll try that.

I made this for dinner last night & my husband said it was the best roast beefiness he had e'er had! Information technology really did accept a wonderful flavor - the beer added then much to it. I did employ the boneless chuck roast, even though information technology was rather fatty. My husband idea that that was probably why it was so tender & tasty. I loved using the parsnips rather than potatoes. They were delicious! I volition definitely brand this again. I call up it will be my become to beefiness stew recipe.

We just didn't think this dish was very proficient. The merely change I made was to utilise regular mushrooms in identify of the fancier ones. Everyone is unlike, and the taste of this dish didn't do it for us. Won't make it again.

Love this stew! I used the frozen pearl onions (too lazy to chop!). Also, after boiling the stew at the terminate, I moved it to a crock pot for the simmer stage, every bit I was going out. When I got home a few hours later, the house smelled heavenly, and the beefiness was fork-tender...yum. Served it over some chocolate-brown rice, but it really doesn't demand to exist served over anything... Will definitely make this again!

My hubby and I beloved this recipe! Very unique gustation for a stew, great comfort food. The beef is always really tender. I make the recipe as is, without changes. I also often make the herbed asiago rolls recommended to go with it, and together information technology is a wonderful repast.

This was a slap-up stew. Wonderful flavors and easy to practise... information technology just takes some fourth dimension, but the result was very tasty and the meat super tender. Definitely a repeat! Enjoy!

This was the best stew I always cooked! The whole family loved it. Not difficult to set up, and the kitchen smelled and then good! Added some celery seed, because I like information technology. Served with artichokes and crusty bread. Next time, I'll up the parsnips, as they added a actually not bad flavor.

Excellent stew for a cold winter nighttime. Picky huband was nervous over parsnips, so just told them they were potatoes and he loved the stew. :-)

Splendid! Couldn't find parsnips simply afterward we learned they look similar a stake carrot. Nosotros used Smithwick's beer which is a piddling sweet. Very unique flavor to the stew, in a good way. Took some prep time, simply once its in the pot, its easily off.

This was a swell stew - only delicious! We found information technology needed something similar 4cups of beef broth, non 1. And even with the 4 cups, information technology was still so thick it did not take a lot of liquid.

Very tasty, uncomplicated recipe, perfect for a weeknight family dinner or even to brand ahead and have for lunches. Recipe is heavy on mushrooms and low-cal on carrots/parsnips, so if your home is full of veggies lovers, bulk up a scrap on those 2. Cooking as well long will turn the parsnips to mush, then keep an heart on the simmering. Meat turns out tender and flavorful - absolutely worth making! Nosotros served with simply roasted broccoli, but if your family needs a little more starch to fill upwardly, information technology would be yummy over egg noodles or with garlic breadstuff.

Splendid stew for a cold evening. I used Guinness, too. There's not a lot of broth in this recipe, but that makes it a thick stew. We ate later it cooked for 1 hour, 20 minutes instead of ii hours because the broth was cooking abroad quickly at that point. Very flavorful--and commencement fourth dimension to cook with parsnips. Yum!

Keen Stew! I used guiness - brought in a wonderful flavor - made the recipe exactly as written. Next time I will add together another cup of broth - equally I would like more liquid. My husband and son were large fans and normally stew without potatos wouldn't become big reviews hither - proficient one - information technology's a keeper!

My husband states information technology was "a keeper" and I agree. I used Fatty Tire two Below Ale, increased the broth from 1 cup to 2 and seasoned the meat prior to browning. I fabricated sure I browned it in small batches and then it got a good color and not greyness. I used an arm roast cut upward and let it cook for almost 3 to 4 hours on the stove while I made the asiago rolls. My veggies were not mushy. Served over egg noodles. Looking forrard to leftovers equally the flavor was great the first time and everyone said it gets better. Stew is never "fancy" but a really skillful 'winter' meal.

I was non a fan of this recipe at all - sorry... but wasn't flavorful and the meat was not that tender. i expected it to fall apart, similar the short ribs I make, but no such luck. Took a lot of finagling to get in gustation enough to desire to consume it all. Wasn't able to gear up the texture.

I loved this recipe. We used Newcastle Brown for it and thought it was awesome. I had no problems with mushy veggies, but like PP, I cut mine into pretty large chunks. Information technology's refreshing to go a stew without potatoes in it. I often find they tin can sit down like atomic number 82 afterward. The parsnips were a corking addition!

I used a Porter Ale from World Mkts. Added cut-up potatoes and nearly 1/2 the mushrooms. Still think it'southward improve the 2nd day and after calculation some Worcestershire sause. Also let it cook in the crockpot.

I used Fat Tire beer too! So funny that nosotros all used it :) I followed the recipe exactly and nosotros all loved it. We didn't think the vegetables were besides mushy only I had chopped them in rather large chunks so mayhap this helped. My husband said information technology was the all-time stew I'd ever fabricated.

Really liked this. Used Fat Tire, would like to experiment with other beers. Concord with calculation the carrots late. Would probably use some spud in identify of some of the mushroom and parsnip next fourth dimension.

I thought this was a great stew. It has very pure beefy flavour. I followed the recipe to the alphabetic character, using Fat Tire, but added a touch more salt.

Really good stew, especially after a day in the refrigerator! Per other reviewers, I used Fat Tire ale and subbed turnips for parsnips; as well, per a Belgian beef stew recipe in my favorite crockpot cookbook, increased thyme to 2 tsp., and added ane tsp. celery seed and about 1/two T. of saccharide earlier putting information technology all in crockpot for 5 hours on HI. Next day nosotros had it for lunch on a chilly, rainy day - thickened up a lot, and meat was and so tender! Delicious with Asiago Rolls!

Hubby thought it was greasy and sweet, I idea it tasted like pot roast just was a lot more than work. It was very "grey." Tasted a little better the 2nd day.

I am very pleased with the flavor of the stew. I used Fat Tire for my beer of choice. The simply thing that I wasn't able to use was the Caraway Seed; small towns don't always have what you need. It has a very squeamish season and very filling. I added the carrots and parsnips when the recipe tells y'all to and it does make it too mushy; adjacent time I will practice as the others suggested and add it an 60 minutes into the simmering.

Great flavour in this stew, and the fibroid-grained Dijon is absolutely a must. I added some chopped flat foliage parsley for color and substituted turnips for parsnips. Made the night earlier then flavors could meld. Serving size is rather small-scale if yous're thinking of a one-dish repast. I steamed potatoes for my husband and we had a green salad and rolls along the side.

I was pleased with the final production later on making a few changes to the original recipe. I used Harpoon Brow Ale, 1 cup of onion, 2 cups of broth, and added i 1/ii cups each chopped cerise potato and sugariness potato in place of the mushrooms. I took the previous reviewer's advice and added the veggies afterward 1 hr of cooking, and they turned out perfectly soft - Non mushy!

Very good still I would put the veggies in afterward cooking the meat for 45 Minutes to ane hr. The veggies became to soft.
